Actions, decisions and presentations

During the Oct. 27, 2025 Study Session, school principals shared their School Improvement Plans with the school board.

During the Oct. 27, 2025 School Board Meeting:

- Arlington High School Sports Medicine students in Niki Roskelley's class shared a presentation with the Board on the Emergency Action Plans they created.

- Dr. Sweeting talked about a monetary donation from the Pioneer PTSA in the amount of $1,044.90 for a TV and Wall Mount to display house points and other events that she approved in October. Donations valued at $1,000 - $4,999.99 are presented to the Board in an informational report the month following receipt so that they may be publicly acknowledged and the Board may share its appreciation.

Beyond the boardroom

School Tours

On Oct. 21, Superintendent Dr. Chrys Sweeting, School Board President Mary Levesque, City of Arlington Mayor Don Vanney, Councilmember Heather Logan, and APS Executive Director of Human Resources Eric DeJong visited Arlington High School and Pioneer Elementary School.

At Arlington High School, they looked at the new Arlington High School addition that was completed in 2023 and funded by the 2020 Capital Levy. They visited the Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math (STEAM) workshop, the special education life skills suite, as well as the scene shop at the Byrnes Performing Arts Center. They also viewed the new mural that hangs in the new addition.

At Pioneer Elementary, they each joined one of four "houses" at the school which focus on Cooperation, Perseverance, Responsibility and Respect. They toured several classrooms, an arts room and the library.

Every month, the school board visits schools throughout the district.

Joint Meeting with Lakewood School Board

On Wednesday, Oct. 22, the Arlington School Board held a joint meeting with the Lakewood School Board. It was a productive and fun meeting. The two boards shared what their districts are doing to foster and engage community partnerships.

WASA 109 Legislative Forum

On Thursday, Oct. 23, School Board President Mary Levesque, School Board Legislative Representative Sheri Kelly, and Superintendent Dr. Chrys Sweeting attended the Washington Association of School Administrators (WASA) Region 109 Legislative Forum in Everett. They had conversations with legislators and other school board members.

The Arlington School Board's legislative priorities are

  1. Focusing on equitable PK-12 school funding and finance system;

  2. Materials, Supplies and Operating Costs;

  3. School Capital Levies;

  4. Special Education; and

  5. Supporting student mental health and preventing self-harm.
